Assistance for Blind Children (ABC) has honored Mr. Habibullah Khan, Founder Member and Past President of ABC.

After founding Assistance for Blind Children (ABC) on 2nd April 1978, numerous philanthropic organizations, embassies of different countries located in Bangladesh, and dedicated people have assisted in various ways of running ABC. ABC honored some individuals and philanthropic organizations at different times through the “Irwin Award”. This is the first time ABC has taken the initiative to honor 6 dedicated members of ABC. This event was held on 19th February 2022 at ABC Head Office (67/A, Indira Road, West Rajabazar, Dhaka-1215 on the occasion of the 44th Annual General Meeting ABC. Mr. Habibullah Khan, Founding Member & Past President of ABC is one of them.

Vice President of ABC Mr. Md. Rubayet Hossain conducted the award ceremony event and Mr. Data Magfur, Life Member, ABC, read out a brief biography of Mr. Habibullah Khan.

Mr. Habibullah Khan was born on 31st January 1935. He was the Minister of the Peoples’ Republic of Bangladesh from 1978 to 1982. At that time, there were no necessary initiatives for eye health services and educational opportunities for blind children. Therefore, Dr. Michael H. K. Irwin, the then UNICEF Representative in Bangladesh, Mr. Habibullah Khan, and his wife, along with 4 others, together with 7 dignitaries, formed the Assistance for Blind Children (ABC) on April 2, 1978. He was vice president of ABC's founding committee. He was elected President of ABC for 1981 and 1982. He also served as the President of ABC in 2013 and 2014. He also served as Treasurer of ABC in 2017 and 2018. He is associated with various social and human development organizations, including Rotary. He was District Governor of RID 328 in the year 1988-1989. Under his dynamic leadership, ABC has been reached today's position. He has worked tirelessly for ABC throughout his life. In every moment, he devotes himself to the welfare of ABC. He has raised money for ABC from various individuals and organizations. He is being honored today for his dedicated service and tireless work. In absence of Mr. Habibullah Khan for his sickness, Mr. M Khairul Alam Sr. Vice President of ABC received a crest on his behalf.
